Click here for important news about the JavaScript Search Engine

This page will help you add a page to your site index. It will ask you a sequence of questions before creating the necessary JavaScript code. You do not have to write any code yourself, and will find this easy if you have ever tried writing HTML. It is useful to have the page open in a browser so that you can copy and paste some of the text.

Step 1 Enter the page number you are adding to the index.
The first page you add will be 1, the second 2 etc.
Step 2 Enter the full URL to the web page, eg http://www.mysite.com/page3.html
This can be quickly done by copying and pasting from the address bar if you have the page open.
If you wish to do offline searching then use a relative link such as example/hervoice.html instead of http://www.javascript.freeuk.com/example/hervoice.html
Step 3 Enter the title of the page.
Step 4 Enter a brief description of the page.  This would normally be the same as any meta description tags on your web page. You could simply copy and paste this description from the source.

You can leave this section blank if you wish.

Step 5 Enter the text to index.

The best way to do this is to highlight the whole web page (images too), then copy and paste into the box below.  Then click the "Tidy" button to clean up the resulting mess!

If you want you can only enter a few words from the page that you want to index. Using whole sentences will produce better results.

Step 6 Press the finish button and the code will appear in the area below.

Click in the box and choose Select All from the Edit menu.  You can then copy and paste this directly into the source of your search.html page.

The text in the box may have wrapped over several lines so that it can be selected easily.  When you paste it into the search.html it should be on one line!
